Horizon Stage Presents: Lizzy Hoyt: Ancient Carols on a Winter’s Night

describes her style as Celtic folk rooted in traditional music. Her holiday themed concert, Ancient Carols on a Winter’s Night, draws partly from her 2011 Christmas album and features a collection of both well-known and obscure holiday carols that connect her audience to days gone by. Combining her passion for music with her love of history, Hoyt said that “many carols are based on Pagan melodies that had Christian lyrics added to them generations later”, which means the old melodies are well-suited to her Celtic style. With a voice that has been described as otherworldly, angelic, sweet, and pure, Lizzy will bring light and warmth to a dark and cold December night.

This concert is Sold Out.

Horizon Stage Presents: Best Little Newfoundland Christmas Pageant… Ever!

Creating the Best Little Newfoundland Christmas Pageant…Ever! is seemingly a dull task for Mrs. O’Brien, who has been put in charge when the original leader, Mrs. Armstrong, hits a moose with her car. What could be so hard? It’s always the same Mary and Joseph and it’s always the same Christmas carols, but no one was expecting the Herdmans to show up for the auditions!!! The Herdmans are “the worst kids in the world” who don’t know anything about Christmas beyond the hamper they get every year, and have only showed up because they heard there were free refreshments. What has the potential to be the worst pageant ever turns out to be the best one, as everyone learns the true meaning of Christmas.

Bassano Arts Council hosts Heather Rankin and her Band!

Heather Rankin was born in the picturesque village of Mabou, Cape Breton, the eleventh of Buddy and Kaye Rankin’s twelve children. The Rankin family lived in a house next to the Community Hall, so Heather and her siblings could sit on the fence and listen to the music emanating from the Pig and Whistles inside. Christmas in the Rankin family home, like their lives, was filled with music. Heather Rankin released her first solo album, A Fine Line, in 2016, after decades performing and recording as part of Cape Breton’s renowned Rankin Family or Rankin Sisters. In 2017, Imagine, her second solo release — and first solo Christmas album was released. Heather will present a concert with songs from both albums as well as some of the traditional Rankin Family favourites.
