Greetings ATAA Members

It’s September! Summer is over and we are still forging into new territory as each day goes by.  ATAA has been busy these past few months participating in advocacy sessions for safe reopening, financial relief, and awareness campaigns for our sector.
It is always nice to hear from you and recently I have had the pleasure to do a little reconnaissance work with our members.
It is heartbreaking to hear from some of you of the complete cancellation of the entire upcoming season, but these are just the plain facts.

I did find that some presenters hosted curbside shows and concerts or drive-in movies in parking lots.  The Empress Theatre in Fort MacLeod had Popcorn Fridays, selling their popular confection for pickup.  The Rotary Performing Arts Centre in Okotoks organized “RPAC At Home Series”, featuring local artists live-streaming from their own living room.    It certainly supports our artists and brings a bit of joy to our audiences.

Going into the fall some of the larger venues are presenting instrumental music, a comedy show or play – following the AHS guidelines for limited capacity ruling and social distancing practices.  Other venues have decided to present a hybrid:  the artist performs in the theatre to a small audience while the performance is being live-streamed.

There are still very real concerns around ensuring our audiences feel safe in coming back to the theatre.  We likely will have to wait for a vaccine before things go back to ‘normal’ but in the meantime the Arts Touring Alliance is here to support our members in any way we can.

We will be hosting another series of Town Hall Zoom meetings at the end of September.  The dates are as follows, but also, look for an e-mail from your regional rep with the Zoom meeting coordinates.

South Zone – with Linda Andres  – Monday, September 21 at 7pm.
East Zone – with Caroline MacMillan – Tuesday, September 22 at 7pm
Yellow head – North Zone – with Holly Davies – Monday, September 28 at 7pm.
Central Zone – with Cindy McLeod  – Tuesday,  September 29 at 7pm.

Bye for now
