Vaughan Williams London Symphony
Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) was a well known English composer of several genres of music. His 2nd symphony, known as the London Symphony, was the composer’s favourite of the nine he composed. Vaughan Williams revised the symphony several times with the initial version completed in 1913 and the final revision twenty years later. Many of the themes in the work are influenced by British folk songs as well as by London scenes. Listeners will be sure to hear familiar sounds of the Westminster chimes. The London Symphony is a diverse work comprised of 4 movements and a somber epilogue. La Gioconda: Dance of the Hours by Amilcare Ponchielli
