Jake’s Gift @ The 37th Edmonton International Fringe Festival
August 17 - August 26$13.00
Jake’s Gift first played at the Edmonton Fringe Festival in August 2008. Back then, the now multi-award winning play was a last minute replacement show, and as such it wasn’t even in the program. Thanks to a generous five star review from Colin MacLean, and dozens of Artists who encouraged their own audiences to see Jake’s Gift, they ended up with a sold out run that started a love affair with Edmonton and the Edmonton Fringe Family, for which they are so grateful.
Jake’s Gift is a heartfelt tribute to our Veterans. The play was created by BC Based Artists Dirk Van Stralen (Director & Stage Manager) and Julia Mackey (Playwright & Performer). Julia was inspired to write Jake’s Gift as a love letter of thanks to all veterans following a journey to Normandy, France, for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day in June 2004. This surprisingly funny drama tells the story of a Canadian WW2 veteran’s reluctant return to Juno Beach to find the grave of the brother who never came home. At its heart, Jake’s Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and personalizes the story behind one soldier’s grave.
Jake’s Gift will have 9 performances between August 17th and August 26th. Tickets are $13.00 each, and can be purchased online as of noon on August 8th 2018 at fringetheatre.ca.
