Day of the Dead Celebration
November 2, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm$25 – $30
Join us for Día de los Muertos, with music by Los Hermanos Cárcamo and La Calavera de Frida. In Mexico, Day of the Dead festivities include singing, dancing, parades, parties, costumes, makeup, and offerings to departed loved ones. William and Ernesto Cárcamo form the duo “Los Hermanos Cárcamo” in Calgary, Alberta. They play songs of the memory with their voices and guitars, keeping alive the legacy and the family tradition. His father, Julio Ernesto Cárcamo Braghiroli (QDDG), formed with them the “Trio Los Cárcamo” that lasted 14 years. He was one of the founders of the “Trío Los Hermanos Cárcamo” of El Salvador with his brothers Roberto Abel Cárcamo and Maximiliano Alfredo Cárcamo.
La Calavera de Frida is a Latin music group committed to maintaining our musical roots. We take advantage of having members of different Latino nationalities to play their music and make it known by everyone in Canada. La Calavera de Frida performed as the main act at the opening of the exhibit “Frida Kahlo: Her Photos” at The Glenbow Museum, 2018 in Calgary; we have also performed in the Day of The Dead celebration at Arts Commons Jack Singer Concert Hall in 2017; We also were the closing act in “Mexifest 2018” at Eau Claire Plaza, Calgary and participated in “Expo Latino Festival” 2017 and 2018 editions, at Prince’s Island. Amongst other public appearances, La Calavera de Frida participated in RAW Artists: MAGNIFY in 2018 and Mexico Independence Day Celebration, organized by Casa Mexico Foundation, 2018. In La Calavera de Frida, we are all very proud of our music and we like to see people dancing and having fun when we play!
