Call to Action: Arts Presentation Funding

Call to Action: Arts Presentation Funding

Arts Promotion

Arts Promotion efforts focus on cultural policy advancement, public awareness, research and ways and means that unite the sector.

CAPACOA works in collaboration with the Canadian Arts Coalition and key partners to promote and encourage a greater knowledge and appreciation of the performing arts. Together, we work to ensure that the arts contribute fully to the individual and social well-being of Canadians. Advocacy is a collaborative effort.

Last year, CAPACOA, advocacy partners and individual presenting organizations advocated for an increase of federal funding to support a strong domestic touring and presenting market. Our heavy lifting was successful. The 2019 federal budget announced two-year investments for “expanding support to artists and cultural events” via the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program, and via the Canada Music Fund.

Two years of additional funding. And we’re almost at the halfway mark.

This leaves us with two options:

❗ Do nothing and let these programs fall back at their previous, anemic funding levels;

☑ Tell each MP that these programs make a difference in each Canadian community and ask for their support the extend these two-years investments beyond 2021.

The timeline for securing this extension is tight. It needs to be announced in the 2020 federal budget, in March, so that you know what level of funding you can expect in 2021.

Take action now. Send a letter to your MP and convince her/him to express their support to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and the Minister of Finance.
