Masters' Play - Spring 2010 Tour
Feel the artistic tension, drive and excitement of our Spring 2010 Season. Influential and ground-breaking ballets that helped shape dance in Canada are featured along with formative ballets commissioned by Ballet Kelowna or created by our own Artistic Director David LaHay.
Canadian master choreographer Brian Macdonald’s seminal ballet “Double Quartet” was inspired by the music of Franz Schubert and Canadian composer R. Murray Shafer. "Double Quartet" is a perfect marriage of music and movement which has garnered national and international praise from audiences and critics alike. Both “Etude” by Vancouver choreographer Kay Armstrong (which won international acclaim) and Ottawa choreographer Nesta Toumine’s hypnotic and ethereal “Gymnopédies” explore the dynamic fusion of classical and contemporary dance. Vancouver choreographer Joe Laughlin created “Butterfly Affect” in 2006 and reworked it especially as an en pointe ballet for six dancers for Ballet Kelowna. "Butterfly Affect" displays Joe's unique stylization of movement and witty musicality and has touched audiences everywhere. David LaHay’s fast-paced "Donizetti Dances" rounds out this all-Canadian program.
Ballet Kelowna’s mission is “to inspire, educate and entertain through the energy and artistry of ballet”. This proudly 'Made in Kelowna' professional dance company is now in its 7th year of presenting its signature ‘inno-classical’ style that features both classical and innovative, modern ballets. Named ‘BC Touring Artist of the Year in 2008’, Ballet Kelowna will be touring to 40 communities in the 09/10 Performance Season.
